Summer 2017

We hope y'all have had as much fun this summer as we have! Over the past few weeks The Western Flyers have traveled coast-to-coast spreading the gospel of Western Swing and accumulating a massive amount of frequent flyer miles!  A highlight was playing the outstanding Lowell Folk Festival in Lowell, Massachusetts. This is the largest free music festival in the United States drawing an estimated 175,000 enthusiastic festival goers. This event features musicians and artisans from around the globe, and food to die for! We then glided in to the legendary Club Passim in Cambridge. Over the years Club Passim has earned a reputation for featuring the finest in live music, having stellar sound (thanks Matt Smith!) and drawing enthusiastic audiences of friendly folks. The next day we hopped in the van for a ride to western Massachusetts to play the Watermelon Wednesdays concert series at The Chapel in West Whately. This series started 18 years ago and draws musicians from across country and listeners from all over the region. At the intermission of every show, folks make their way outside for plenty of tasty watermelon! A packed house of enthusiastic music lovers made this a really fun night.

We then flew from Boston to Portland, Oregon (that's a mighty long flight folks) for Oregon dates, then we made our way to the Land of Katie - Colorado! Starting off in beautiful Norwood, Colorado for the inaugural Norwood Food and Music Rendezvous, what a successful first year event! The capacity crowd were whooping it up and the dance floor stayed full all night. The next day we drove over the mountain to play an outdoor wedding reception in Telluride, Colorado. Absolutely stunning scenery and the large group of attendees put on a textbook demonstration of how to party!

After a bit of R & R, we are looking forward to upcoming shows in Texas and a return visit to Colorado.  October brings our first time to play the Oklahoma International Bluegrass Festival in Guthrie, Oklahoma. A great festival with a stellar line-up, then the following weekend we play yet another first class festival, the Bob Wills Fiddle Festival and Contest in Greenville, Texas. Dedicated to the "King of Western Swing"- Bob Wills, featuring plenty of Western Swing, as well as a world-class fiddle contest with fiddlers from across the country competing for the coveted title of "Bob Wills Fiddle Champion"!

We hope to cross paths with Y'all down the trail and remember..... Western Swing is "AMERICA'S MOST POPULAR MUSIC"!!
